WRANGLER
All positions are filled for next summer.
Reports to: Head Wrangler
PRIMARY FUNCTION
To take guests out on fun, safe, and challenging rides. Responsible for caring for the horses, preparation of rides, and barn maintenance.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Riding Program
- Goals
- Strive for even utilization of public riding lands
- Guest satisfaction: lessons, games, challenging rides
- Quality control
- Proper conditioning of horses
- Strive for excellent safety record
Daily duties
- Catch all horses
- Groom, saddle, bridle, and medicate horses who require medication
- Lead rides
- Clean stalls and entire barn area twice a day
- Unsaddle horses at the end of the day
- Observe all horse injuries, lameness, illness, or any unusual behavior
- Aid head wrangler in paperwork if necessary
Thursday/ Friday Chores
- Clean and separate all tack: blanket, cinches, breast collars, etc.
- Harrow fields as necessary
- Prepare for upcoming week
- Repair any damages as necessary
- Deep clean barn, tack room and empty manure wagon
- Check first aid kits and replace as necessary
MEDICAL PROCEDURES
- Aid veterinarian if head or assistant head wrangler is not present
- Give injections, medications, and bandage when necessary
- Stay posted on daily medical procedures and emergency medical procedures
OTHER
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the head wrangler: lessons, errands to town, conditioning horses, miscellaneous tasks
- Responsible for knowing the barn procedures manual and the head wrangler and information contained in the Personnel Policy handbook.
- Assist with any projects that need to be completed by the end of the summer

- Physically fit/ able to work in a fast paced barn
- CPR and First Aid required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to carry saddles and associated tack (weighing up to 80 lbs.) and lift onto horsesâ backs
- Able to move or assist in moving bales of hay weighing up to 150 lbs.
- Able to lift salt blocks weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Able to mount and dismount from horseback easily
- Able to climb down hay stacks
- Able to operate farm equipment (truck & tractor), pull or push wheel barrows and garden carts containing up to 120 lbs. of materials. (Will train on equipment)
- Able to respond instantaneously to sudden, unexpected moves of horses while either on the ground or on horseback
