Youth Counseling Job Description: 

YOUTH COUNSELOR 

We are still looking for one part time YC for the summer 2008. The part time position can be combined with hours in the dining room and kitchen to make the position full time.

These positions start on June 9, and end on August 23. We have very limited flexibilty for people to arrive after or leave prior to these dates. 

Reports to: Head Youth Counselor
Coordinates with: All departments

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Contribute to a youth program which is fun, safe and educational

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand and follow personnel policy  
  • Organize and involve children both in activities they come up with as well as the "regularly scheduled" activities.  
  • Look for and contribute new games, activities, and crafts  
  • Enforce program rules to maintain order and safety  
  • Carry out any misc. assigned tasks by management  
  • Attend staff meetings  
  • Keep all youth areas clean and organized.  
  • Bus children's tables  

JOB SKILLS REQUIRED

Strong interpersonal skills, rapport with children, First Aid/ CPR, prior experience with children, energetic and outgoing personality, creativity, desire to learn basic horsemanship

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift and carry children up to 5 years old  
  • Perform First Aid and CPR  
  • Ability to lead children in physical games  

HEAD YOUTH COUNSELOR

Reports to: Operations Manager
Coordinates with: All Department Managers (especially the barn)
Supervises: All youth counselors

PRIMARY FUNCTION

To develop and manage a youth program that is fun, safe, and educational. Focus on games, arts & crafts, history, geology, nature, and the out of doors.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct and coach youth counseling staff including training, scheduling, evaluating, assigning duties and tasks.  
  • Make sure the personnel policy is understood and adhered to by all y/c staff  
  • Maintain good communication with parents and rectify any problems  
  • Communicate with the kitchen about children's food and special needs  
  • Communicate and work with the barn to maintain a safe and fun riding program  
  • Keep the y/c manual up to date on new programs, procedures, and daily routines  
  • Attend staff and managers meetings  
  • Hold an orientation meeting Saturday night to welcome and answer any questions for parents  
  • Be present during dinner on Saturday night  
  • Purchase y/c supplies as needed and stay within department budget  
  • Carry out any misc. task assigned by management  
  • Promote safety and order throughout the program  
  • Organize and involve children both in the activities they came up with as well as regularly scheduled activities.  
  • Look for and contribute new games, activities, crafts, etc. keeping a focus on history, geology, nature, and outdoor recreation  
  • Watch the children throughout the week and, based on some activity they enjoy or some positive personality trait, decide the horseshoe awards (awards should never be based on looks or physical traits.)  
  • Keep all areas clean and organized. Bus children's tables.
