Horse of the Month
LIGHTNING
April 2008
Lightning was donated to Rock Springs Guest Ranch with his friend Tanna in November. He is a QH/Clydesdale cross. He stands at 15.2 hands and is very gentle and honest. Lightning will be used as a guest horse for our riding program after he has had a few more rides on the trails. His color is Bay and he is 11 years old. He is now best friends with Jake, another new horse to our riding program. Happy trails!!! J
DUKE
March 2008
The March horse of the month is ‘DUKE”. He is a registered Belgian gelding. Duke is 9yrs. old and weighs about 1750 lbs. He stands at 16.2 hands tall and is the largest horse in the Rock Springs herd. He is beautiful, smart and tends to be ridden by wranglers. Some guests have ridden him as well and he actually prefers to not be the lead horse. Duke was a driving horse before he came to RS , but he also enjoys being ridden. He loves to show off and stick his tongue out too! Happy Trails!
Twister
February ~ 2008
Twister is a 27 year old Registered Quarter Horse gelding. He has been at the ranch for 4 years and loves to be ridden by kiddos. He is a dominant horse in the herd, so he likes his space and prefers to be at the back of the line. He is very smart and has white star on his forehead. He is best friends with Baja and we hope that Twister is at the ranch for many years to come. :-) Happy Trails
HAWK
January ~ 2008
Hawk is our Jan. horse of the month. He is an 18 year old Appaloosa gelding and is 16.1 hands tall. A hand is a way to measure a horse’s height. Each hand is 4 inches and horses are measured from the ground to the tallest bone on their back. That bone is called the withers. Before Hawk was donated to us in October of 2007, he was a jumping and 3-day event horse. He came with his best friend, Jazz, who is a registered Quarter Horse gelding. We are hoping that Hawk can be used as an advanced guest horse this summer. He is very spirited and athletic. Happy Trails!
MURPHY
Dec. 2007
Murphy is a 14 yr. Registered Quarter Horse gelding. He is a sorrel in color, 15.1 hands tall, and is very athletic. He is primarily used as a wrangler horse, but he does have an occasional guest. Murphy is very affectionate and has a very playful way about him. He is one of the alpha geldings in our herd. Murphy loves to untie himself and other horses around him. J He is one smart cookie! NOV. - SQUIRT
Squirt came to us last summer in June. He is a nineteen yr. old Quarter Horse cross gelding. We used him as a wrangler horse for the first few weeks and then as a guest horse for 6 weeks during our SAP season. He stands at 14.3 hands and has lots of go and life in him. He came from a family in Redmond and had been used as a 4-H and High School equestrian horse. He has competed in many different disciplines and is a smart, athletic little guy. His best friend is named Bosco. We all hope to have Squirt as part of our family for many years to come. Happy Trails!!!
