Riding during the
spring, fall and winter
At Rock Springs, our horseback riding program is the
central focus of our recreation. During the summer, when we
operate as a traditional dude ranch, our riding is available
only to guests who are staying with us. We also offer regularly
scheduled rides for our guests over Thanksgiving weekend.
However, from September through mid-June, when we operate as a
conference center, riding is available both to groups staying
on property and to those who are not, by reservation.
Because riding is by appointment, and we do not have
rides departing daily, your group will most likely be the only
people on your ride. We require a minimum of 3 riders, with a
maximum of 6 guests on a ride. If you have a larger group, you
will be split up into smaller groups. Rides can either depart
at 10:00 am or 2:00 pm.
Riding is $40 for the first hour, $25 each additional hour, per
person, per ride. Lead line pony rides for small children are
$15. Reservations are based on availability of staff, and must
be made at least 24 hours in advance. A credit card number will
be required at the time of the reservation to confirm your
ride. Cancellations the day before the ride will not be
charged. If you must cancel after 5:00 pm the day before your
ride, there will be a $10 cancellation charge, and no-shows
will be charged the full price.
Rock Springs Guest Ranch encourages your honesty about your riding ability, height, weight, and age (if under 18 year old,) for the safety of you, your horse, and those around you. Many hourly horseback riding operations train horses only to follow the tail of the horse in front of them, creating mounts that take virtually no instruction from their rider. Because our horses come from ranchers and riders who trained them to respond to cues from their rider, it is important that the horse is able to understand your instructions to him or her. We base ability levels on an estimated amount of riding you have done: 1-25 times: beginner, 26-75 times: intermediate, and 76 or more times: advanced.
Rides may be cancelled due to weather or emergencies on the ranch, under which circumstances there would be no charge.
