Packing For Your Ranch
Vacation
The following is a list to aid you in packing for your visit
with us. We do have
some requirements for safety, particularly with
regard to your boots. The descriptions of what you
will need are listed below.
Boots or a sturdy shoe for riding - they need to have a heel and no lug soles. (They should have no more than a quarter inch/ 6mm deep tread and have a heel with at least 1/2 inch/ 12mm rise. This ensures that you will be able to quickly remove your foot from the stirrup, and will not allow the foot to slide all the way through the stirrup.) Also, don't forget the tall socks to keep the top of the boot from rubbing on your leg.
Long pants for riding - Jeans without a rolled inseam are the most comfortable for riding. Long pants protect your legs from brush and chafing from the saddle. (Shorts are not allowed.)
Bandana or scarf - it can be a little dusty out
there sometimes.
Hat with string ties and sunglasses with a retention strap - sun protection that will not fly off when riding.
Raincoat or windbreaker - we hope you do not have to unpack it.
Warm jacket or sweater - because of our elevation and lack of humidity, it can be cool anytime.
Leather riding gloves - for those who prefer to wear them.
Riding helmet - These are required for children 12 and under and strongly recommended for all other riders. We have loaners, if you do not bring one with you.
Other non- riding related items to remember
Sunscreen/ Sunblock
Mosquito Repellant - not a big problem, but there are a few.
Swim Suit
Beach Towel
Camera and Film
Sneakers or water shoes - if you want to go rafting or canoeing.
Fishing gear - we do not have fishing equipment.
Mountain bike or road bike - There are a lot of trails and routes in the area. If you are flying in, there are bikes available in the area for rent.
Golf Clubs - There are several great courses in the area, and you can join John, our general manager, for a round.
A good book - for the adventuresome!
